About IEP Goal Desk
A goal generator and a bank of 348 example goals across 17 skill areas, free, with no account and nothing sent off your device.
What it does
Every goal the generator writes carries the parts a measurable annual goal needs under the federal regulation: a timeframe, the conditions, an observable behavior, a criterion, and how progress will be measured. You set the present level and the target; the generator writes the goal and its benchmarks, and you paste it into your own document with the student's name added there.
The example goals in the bank are sentences we wrote to that structure. They are starting points to edit, not goals to copy — a goal is individualized by definition, and the present level in it has to be the student's.
What it is not
IEP Goal Desk is independently run. It is not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Education, any state education agency or school district, or any standards body, and it is not legal advice. The IEP team decides what goes in an IEP; this site only makes the writing faster.
Where the facts come from
The site makes one kind of factual claim — what the federal special-education regulation requires of a goal — and every such claim is read from the regulation itself on the eCFR, not from a summary or another goal site. Each source carries the date a person last read it:
- 34 CFR §300.320 — Definition of individualized education program — read August 26, 2026
- 34 CFR §300.324 — Development, review, and revision of IEP — read August 26, 2026
- 34 CFR §300.303 — Reevaluations — read August 26, 2026
- 34 CFR §300.8 — Child with a disability (the thirteen categories) — read August 26, 2026
- 34 CFR part 300, subpart A — Definitions (§§ 300.4-300.44) — read September 2, 2026
- 34 CFR §300.323 — When IEPs must be in effect — read September 2, 2026
- 34 CFR §300.114 — Least restrictive environment requirements — read September 2, 2026
- 34 CFR §300.106 — Extended school year services — read September 2, 2026
- Common Core State Standards — Public License — read August 26, 2026
State standards
Federal regulation text is public domain and may be quoted. State academic standards are not, so the site does not reproduce their text: where a standard is referenced only its code appears, and aligning a goal to your state's standard is a step you do in your own document.
Privacy, in one line
Nothing you select is sent anywhere, there is no free-text field, and no student record ever enters the site. The longer version is on the privacy page.
